Description:

Get on the turf with GameOnVT’s Adult Indoor Field Hockey Recreational League! Enjoy a slower pace, friendly competition, and a welcoming setting for staying active and connecting with other players. Beginners are welcome, along with returning players and anyone who prefers a more relaxed game. Participation is primarily women, and men are welcome.

Whether you’re trying field hockey for the first time or picking up your stick after years away, this league offers an opportunity to enjoy the sport without the intensity of our intermediate league.

Program Details

  • Who can play: Adult players of all genders; participation is primarily women.
  • Level: Recreational; beginners welcome. A basic understanding of the rules is helpful.
  • Format: 7v7 on a reduced field, with no goalies.
  • Rules: Short-field play using outdoor field hockey rules.
  • Game length: Two 25-minute running-time halves.
  • Officiating: One official per game.
  • Instruction: No instruction is provided.
  • Location: Indoor turf at Shelburne Field House in Shelburne.
  • Registration: Individual and team registration options are available.

Is Recreational Right for You?

This league is a good fit for newer players, adults returning to the sport, and experienced players who enjoy a less intense pace. The emphasis is on participation, teamwork, and enjoying the game.

Beginners are welcome, but this is a playing league rather than an instructional program. Reviewing basic rules before your first game will help you feel more comfortable getting involved. Contact GameOnVT if you have questions about what to expect.

Experienced players are welcome and expected to support the recreational atmosphere by sharing opportunities, encouraging teammates, and keeping their pace and intensity appropriate for the group.

What to Expect

Expect active games with room to build confidence and enjoy friendly competition. A slower pace still means plenty of movement, passing, and opportunities to contribute on offense and defense.

Respect teammates, opponents, and the official, maintain control of your stick, and play safely. Dangerous play, discriminatory behavior, and poor sportsmanship will not be tolerated.

What to Wear and Bring

  • Field hockey stick: Bring your stick for play.
  • Shin guards and mouth guard: Both are required for all players.
  • Footwear: Turf shoes are recommended, but any clean athletic shoe is acceptable.
  • Athletic attire: Wear clothing suitable for running and playing.
  • Water: Bring a water bottle.

Looking for a Faster-Paced Game?

Our Adult Indoor Field Hockey Intermediate League offers more competitive play geared toward players with high school varsity or college-level experience, with greater emphasis on positioning and quick team play.
