Roller Derby

Green Mountain Roller Derby

So you want to play roller derby?

Green Mountain Roller Derby is always on the lookout for new skaters and officials. New skaters are welcome to attend our weekly rookie practices every Tuesday from 8:30pm - 10:00pm at the Champlain Valley Expo immediately following GMRD's weekly scrimmage (which begins at 6:30pm). Rookies and aspring officials are encouraged to come early to help with scrimmage. Check the GMRD calendar for our practice schedule.

We are pleased to offer a new structure for our rookie training program! GMRD is now accepting new skaters and officials in intermittent waves throughout our season. With this new structure, our new recruits will begin their training in a group and progress through learning new skills together. We anticipate many benefits from this change, including a stronger sense of community among our rookies and an improved flow through lesson plans. Our next rookie & official intake begins on Tuesday, May 2nd, 2017; future dates TBD. What you need: Mouthguard and good attitude, plus any gear you have including skates, knee and elbow pads, wrist guards and a helmet. Borrowed gear is available on a first-come, first-served basis, with preference going to those who come early to help at the scrimmage.

Mean Mountain Boys

The Mean Mountain Boys/Vermont Men's Roller Derby is a skater-owned, not for profit Roller Derby league. We are the only league in northern New England that is certified by the Men's Roller Derby Association (MRDA). The MRDA has an inclusive gender policy and allows all skaters to participate. No experience is necessary, and the league provides training in skating and the skills necessary to compete in this contact sport. "Loaner" equipment is available for new skaters. Competitive games called "bouts" are typically held between April 1 and Sept. 1, although some have taken place outside of that time period. The league offers a high level of camaraderie born of the experience of competing in a sport that is new to most participants and that is very demanding physically and mentally.

The cost is $50 per month plus equipment to be purchased. All participants must be 18 or over.
